Mouth rinse basics: fluoride rinses vs cosmetic rinses

A rinse can be an extra. It is not a shortcut around the brush.

Read the front carefully

Words like “anticavity” and a fluoride ingredient signal a therapeutic rinse. Mint alone does not.

Timing

Some clinicians prefer rinsing at a different time than brushing so fluoride from paste is not washed away. Follow your product directions.

Alcohol-free options

Alcohol-free rinses are gentler for dry mouths. Choose based on comfort and label claims.
